BPL Families to Get Free 100-Sq-Yard Plots and Solar Panels: State Government Announces Major Relief

Send Push

In a significant step towards improving the lives of low-income households, the Haryana government has announced two major initiatives for Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antyodaya families. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, while addressing a public program in Ladwa constituency, revealed that eligible families will receive a 100-square-yard plot and free rooftop solar panels under newly rolled-out schemes. These initiatives aim to provide permanent housing solutions and free electricity to thousands of households struggling with basic needs.

Free Solar Panels Generating 200 Units of Electricity Per Month

Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, families with an annual income of up to ₹1.8 lakh will receive 2 kW solar panel systems installed on their rooftops.

  • Each setup can generate approximately 200 units of electricity per month, significantly reducing monthly power bills.

  • Beneficiaries will not have to spend a single rupee, as the central government subsidy of up to ₹70,000 will cover the majority of the cost, and the state government will bear the remaining balance.

  • Government officials will conduct door-to-door surveys to identify eligible households and ensure the installation of solar panels.

The state has set a target to equip 1 lakh homes with solar panels, and 26,000 families have already benefited. After installation, beneficiaries can expect major savings on electricity bills, improving their household finances.

100-Sq-Yard Plots for Landless Families

Along with solar panels, the state government has also promised to provide 100-square-yard residential plots to 1 lakh landless Antyodaya families under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana.

  • Beneficiaries will receive legal ownership documents (adhikar patra) for the allotted plots.

  • After receiving the plot, families can construct their own houses using the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

  • The plot price has been fixed at ₹1 lakh, which beneficiaries must deposit within one year of receiving the ownership document.

This initiative will help homeless families secure permanent shelter, giving them the opportunity to build their homes without the financial stress of acquiring land.

Who Can Benefit from These Schemes?

According to government estimates, around 50 lakh families in the state earn ₹1.8 lakh or less annually, which means a large segment of the population can benefit from these announcements.

  • Solar panel installation will help families save on rising electricity costs.

  • Residential plots will empower landless families to own a property and eventually construct their own homes.

  • The schemes directly target the state’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens, ensuring that they get the basic amenities of shelter and electricity.

Government to Begin Beneficiary Identification Soon

The state government has already completed the first phase of solar panel distribution and will soon start preparing the list of 1 lakh families who will receive residential plots in the upcoming phase. By combining clean energy support and affordable housing solutions, the initiative is expected to improve the living standards of BPL families significantly.

Bottom Line

These welfare measures mark a major relief for low-income households in Haryana. By offering free rooftop solar panels capable of generating 200 units per month and 100-square-yard residential plots for landless families, the government is not only providing immediate financial relief but also paving the way for long-term economic stability for its most vulnerable citizens.

Beneficiaries are advised to keep their income documents and BPL identification ready as the government begins the next phase of verification and allotment.
