WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, is set to roll out a message summarization feature that could completely change how users navigate their chats. Whether you’re part of an active family group or a busy work channel, going through hundreds of messages could soon be a thing of the past.
According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently under development and has been spotted in the WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.15.12. Once released, it will allow users to privately generate a summary of unread messages using Meta’s AI technology.
🔍 What Does the Feature Do?The new summarization feature will enable users to get a concise overview of all new messages within a chat, group, or channel without needing to scroll through each one. This will be especially useful for those who often miss messages due to work or personal commitments.
Users will be able to trigger the summarization manually by pressing a dedicated button. Once tapped, WhatsApp will send a private request to Meta AI, asking it to scan and summarize recent messages. Importantly, this process will not compromise user privacy.
🔐 Privacy First: How Secure Is This?WhatsApp has clarified that the summarization process will be entirely private and secure. The contents of the messages will not be shared with Meta servers or any third party. The AI-generated summary will be processed privately and returned securely to the user’s device.
This ensures end-to-end encryption stays intact, continuing WhatsApp’s commitment to privacy.
💡 Who Benefits the Most? This upcoming feature will be a game-changer for users in active group chats, where catching up on missed messages can be overwhelming. Whether it's updates in a school group, office coordination, or family conversations, the summarization tool will help users stay informed — without reading everything word by word.
🛠️ Still Under DevelopmentAs of now, the feature is not available to the public and is still in development. There’s no official release date yet, but it’s expected to roll out in a future update soon.
