Not 'War 2', THIS Was Hrithik Roshan's First Film in Which He Portrayed a Secret Agent

The wait is finally over. Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 has hit the theatres. People were highly anticipating it since they saw the post-credits scene of Tiger 3 in late 2023. Now, nearly two years later, the movie is here. War 2 is the sixth film of the franchise and a sequel to War. But believe it or not, even before Hrithik entered the YRF Spy Universe, he had already played the role of a spy.

The YRF Spy Universe

The YRF Spy Universe began with Ek Tha Tiger in 2012. Its direct sequel Tiger Zinda Hai followed in 2017 and then came War in 2019 followed by Pathaan and Tiger 3 in 2023. Now we have War 2 in 2025. Alpha is next on the list.

Hrithik Roshan’s First Role as a Spy

So what film are we talking about? Well five years before Hrithik entered the YRF Spy Universe, he acted in a film called Bang Bang! It also starred Katrina Kaif, Danny Denzongpa, Jaaved Jaaferi and Jimmy Shergill. The fact that Hrithik is a spy however is revealed only towards the end of the movie as one thinks he’s a thief for most part of it.

The film was a semi-hit and did not achieve blockbuster status. However, the fight scenes and songs, not to mention Hrithik’s dance numbers did attract the audience. The plot itself was inspired by the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz 2010 movie Knight and Day.

Hrithik Roshan Joins YRF Spy Universe

So while the Spy Universe was Hrithik’s first experience with a franchise, his first role of a spy actually came before he even entered it. However it was in War that he essayed the role of an agent to perfection. He will look to continue where he left off in War 2.

War was released on October 2, 2019 and was a huge success. The film minted Rs. 475 crore at the Box Office. War 2 is expected to do even better than that. The first film starred Tiger Shroff, Ashutosh Rana, Vaani Kapoor and Anupriya Goenka. The sequel has new cast members like Kiara Advani and NTR Jr. Bobby Deol, Alia Bhatt and Sharvari have cameos while Anil Kapoor shall be introduced as a new character.

Hrithik Roshan’s Acting Journey

Hrithik has now been part of the industry for 25 years. He also starred as a child actor back in the 1980s. In fact, War 2 faces off against Coolie in which Rajinikanth is the hero. Hrithik and Rajinikanth once acted together nearly 40 years ago in a film called Bhagwaan Dada.

At 51, Hrithik is never shy to reinvent himself. Just last year, he played the role of an IAF pilot for the first time in Fighter. Back in 2004, he played the role of a soldier in Lakshya for the first time. It remains to be seen what comes next.
