Five years after Special Ops Season 1 and almost four years after its spin-off, Special Ops 1.5, Kay Kay Menon has finally made a comeback with Special Ops Season 2.
Is the Neeraj Pandey show as good as its previous seasons? What to expect in Special Ops Season 2? Let’s find out in MensXP’s review below.
The Hot Take On Special Ops Season 2Neeraj Pandey may have been going through a rough patch with his recent releases like Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Sikandar Ka Muqaddar but when it came to his much-loved web series Special Ops, he has once again hit it out of the park with its season 2.
There is a lot to like in Special Ops season 2, right from its incredible star cast, the topical storyline and grand spectacle that it is.

In terms of the canvas, Special Ops season 2 is without a doubt the biggest OTT show in India, on par with some of the biggest spy films that release on the big screens.
Special Ops season 2 starts after season 1 and also weaves the main plot point of Special Ops 1.5 as one of its subplots.
What really works well this season is its solid screenplay that skillfully manages to interweave the main plotline along with the two subplots while also giving enough screentime to its massive star cast, even if Kay Kay Menon’s Himmat Singh remains the top dog.
Also, unlike other shows, Special Ops season 2 features only 7 episodes that have enough pace to keep you hooked through and through. Another win for the audiences is that it’s a complete season with unnecessary cliffhangers and doesn’t suffer from the “to-be-continued virus”.
I also liked the fact that the enemy this time isn’t Pakistan. The India-Pakistan conflict is so done to death. It was about time makers focused on China.
While I enjoyed a majority of the show, a couple of things that didn’t sit well with me were its action scenes. The choreography and editing in those scenes were quite choppy. It didn’t seem like they were actually fighting and looked more like a rehearsed fight with low energy.
Also, that “edge-of-the-seat thrill” was missing in what was supposed to be a high-octane season finale. The final episode could’ve been sharper in its execution, writing and thrills.
Also, the subplot about Himmat and his daughter does not necessarily work.
Special Ops Season 2 PerformanceThere is a reason Kay Kay Menon is counted amongst the best actors of Indian cinema and he is simply phenomenal here. There is not a single wrong note in his performance. He is the major reason why Special Ops works.

Tahir Raj Bhasin makes for an interesting antagonist and delivers a strong performance.
Karan Tacker gets a lesser screentime as compared to season 1 but once again is outstanding.
Prakash Raj is a welcome addition to the pack. I really liked his performance and his subplot. Though the conclusion felt rushed.
Other cast members, including Parmeet Sethi, Saiyami Kher, Vikas Manaktala, Vinay Pathak, Kali Prasad Mukherjee, Muzammil Ibrahim, Arif Zakaria and Tota Roy Chowdhury, provide good support.
Dalip Tahil is wasted in a role that isn’t worthy of an actor of his calibre.
Special Ops Season 2 Final VerdictOverall, Special Ops Season 2 returns with all guns blazing and was worth the wait. It’s another binge-worthy season from creator Neeraj Pandey and director Shivam Nair.
