Punjab Kings have officially named Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA IPL 2025 due to a broken finger.
While Maxwell had been nursing the injury for a few days, the franchise confirmed Owen’s signing only on Sunday, where they Lucknow Super Giants.
Maxwell endured a below-par IPL 2025 campaign before being sidelined by injury. The setback comes as a significant blow for Punjab Kings, who remain in contention for the playoffs. His departure was confirmed through an official statement by the Indian Premier League.
In response, PBKS have signed 23-year-old Tasmanian all-rounder Mitchell Owen, who brings a mix of aggressive batting and handy medium pace. The youngster will join the franchise for INR 3 Crore and is expected to provide depth in both departments for the Mohali-based side.
Who is Mitchell Owen?
Tasmanian all-rounder Mitchell Owen is considered one of Australia's rising T20 prospects. He made his T20 debut in Big Bash League 10 and four years later, he made headlines during BBL 14 by smashing a 39-ball century in the final, equalling the tournament’s record for the fastest hundred and guiding Hobart Hurricanes to their maiden title.

Primarily a pace-bowling all-rounder, Owen has the ability to open the batting and bowl medium pace. His breakthrough came after years of consistent performances at youth and domestic levels. In 2019-20, he piled up 415 runs for Tasmania in the Under-19 National Championships. During his U19 time, he switched from off-spin to seam bowling.
Owen is currently playing in the Pakistan Super League, where he has maintained a strike rate of nearly 200 for Peshawar Zalmi. Overall, he has scored 101 runs in six innings with a strike rate of 198.03.
