Records are the favorite of cricket enthusiasts. Whether it is the fastest hundred or most sixes in a match, every record makes the game more thrilling. One such exciting record is – Which team has scored the most runs in the powerplay (first six overs) in IPL history?
The powerplay is the period when only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle, and the batters play with freedom to score quick runs. Several teams have dominated at the beginning of their innings in the powerplay, but one team has been the lone survivor, crossing all barriers. Can you tell us which team has this record?
Let us give you a hint. This record was created in season 2024, in a night game in Delhi. The stadium was packed, and the fans saw a batting blitz never before. The record-breaker team was playing against Delhi Capitals. Need more hints? One of their openers hammered the ball all across the park, scoring 84 runs from only 26 balls within the powerplay. Another opener at the top whacked 40 runs in a mere 10 balls he faced in the initial six overs.
This was not any typical beginning, it was sheer carnage. In six overs, this side had already reached 100 plus, leaving everyone stunned and the opponents in disarray. Runs just continued flowing in, and bowlers did not know what to do. The score board was simply moving like a rocket. But still, wondering which team it was? Continue reading to know!
