Washington: US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Indian-American socialist Zohran Mamdani, who recently clinched New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary election.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump, in a series of posts, labelled Mamdani a "100% communist lunatic" and warned that the Democratic Party has "crossed the line."
Have a look at his entire statement here:
Mamdani, 33, declared victory after former New York governor Andrew Cuomo conceded. With 93% of the vote counted, Mamdani was leading with 43.5% to Cuomo's 36.4%. Cuomo called Mamdani's campaign "smart, good and impactful."

In a post filled with characteristic name-calling, Trump also mocked Schumer as “Cryin’ Chuck” and added, “Even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is grovelling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”
Trump also floated the idea that Democrats should nominate Jasmine Crockett for President and assign Cabinet positions to “AOC+3”, sarcastically claiming, “With Mamdani as our future Communist Mayor, the country is really screwed.”
Mamdani’s Victory Sparks Party Rifts
Mamdani, the son of filmmaker Mira Nair and academic Mahmood Mamdani, is poised to become New York City’s first Muslim mayor if he wins the final race. A sitting New York State Assembly member from Astoria, Queens, since 2021, he has campaigned on a bold leftist platform, proposing city-run grocery stores, free bus rides, rent freezes, and a $10 billion tax hike targeting the rich and large corporations.
His win, however, has sparked rifts within the Democratic Party. Two union leaders have stepped down from the party’s leadership board following his primary victory, underlining internal unease over the party’s leftward tilt.
