Bhopal: PWD To Replace Damaged Portion Of Asphalt Roads With Cement Roads

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Facing flak over potholed roads in the city, the Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to replace rain-damaged stretches of asphalt roads with cement ones.

PWD Engineer-in-Chief K.P.S. Rana said, “Asphalt roads get easily damaged due to waterlogging, but cement roads withstand the water problem. The roads thatoften get inundated during rains will be identified, and the damaged stretch replaced by a cement road.”

Another PWD officer said that Nagpur and Mumbai cities have developed a network of cement roads to do away with potholes, which are common on asphalt roads. One such cement road construction is underway in the Bhopal Talkies area.

Once funds are available, more asphalt roads can be replaced with cement ones. This model could be adopted in other cities of the state as well, said the officer. Recently, a PWD survey revealed 20 damaged roads. Earlier, the JK Road often had potholes till it was turned into a cement road.  

PWD tells officials not to leave HQ without permission

The PWD has directed its officials not to leave the headquarters without taking permission from the competent officer and without leave sanction. If they do so, strict disciplinary action will be taken against them. It is often seen that officials leave Bhopal, going out of their work area, without necessary permission. This affects government work which may not get completed within the stipulated time.
