New Delhi: In a horrific incident, a drunk driver of a white Audi car ran over five people sleeping on a footpath near Shiva Camp in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar. The victims included two couples and an eight-year-old girl. The crash occurred around 1:45 am on July 9, police confirmed on Saturday, July 12.
The accused, 40-year-old Utsav Shekhar, a resident of Dwarka, was arrested at the scene by police officers. Medical tests later confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
By the time police teams reached the spot, all five injured had already been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Families crushed in their sleep
The victims have been identified as Ladhi (40), her husband Sabami alias Chirma (45), their daughter Bimla (8), and another couple, Ram Chander (45) and Narayani (35).
All are residents of Rajasthan and had been sleeping along the pavement in front of Shiva Camp when the car drove over them.
Police initiate legal action
“A preliminary investigation and eyewitness accounts have revealed that a white Audi car drove over the victims while they were asleep on the footpath. Shekhar was apprehended on the spot,” a police official told ANI.
The crash left a scene of chaos and horror, with blankets, footwear, and broken belongings strewn across the pavement.
Police said legal proceedings have begun against Shekhar under relevant charges. An investigation is currently underway.
