Spurs end trophy drought
Both teams came into the final after poor seasons in the Premier League. Manchester United had been unbeaten in Europe until the final, but Spurs stepped up when it mattered most.
The victory ended Tottenhamβs 17-year wait for a trophy and gave them their first-ever European title. The winning goal came in the first half, when Brennan Johnson's strike deflected off United defender Luke Shaw and found the back of the net. That single goal was enough for Spurs to lift the trophy in Bilbao and secure a spot in next seasonβs UEFA Champions League.
While Spurs celebrated their long-awaited success, Manchester United were left disappointed, ending the season with no trophy and finishing 16th in the league, missing out on European football next year.
