Madhya Pradesh: Premature Seat Allotment Of BEd, MEd Sparks Row

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A major administrative lapse has come to light in the counselling process for NCTE-recognised courses such as B.Ed-MEd, and BPEd-MPEd, raising concerns about transparency and procedural integrity within the department of higher education.

The department had officially scheduled seat allotments for June 26. However, in a surprising and unauthorised move, the allotment list was uploaded to the official website on Tuesday evening at around 5:45 — nearly two days ahead of the planned date.

The list, which remained live for approximately 30 minutes, revealed that 33,245 students had been allotted seats, including in private colleges, where 7 to 8 seats per institution were allocated, continuing a pattern seen in previous rounds.

Once the early publication was detected, officials quickly retracted the list and issued a cancellation. According to sources, the error occurred while updating seat allotments for traditional undergraduate and postgraduate courses — and the NCTE courses were included inadvertently.

The counselling process covers nearly 72,000 seats across BEd, MEd, BPEd, and MPEd courses. In the first phase, 70,000 students had registered, but only 31,000 were allotted seats. Another 10,000 registered in the second phase and combined seat allotments were expected for around 50,000 students.
