According to police officials, Dubey was employed by a prominent South Mumbai business family between 2015 and 2016. He was dismissed from his job after repeatedly reporting to work in an intoxicated state. Upon termination, he allegedly issued threats to the family.

Following his dismissal, Dubey allegedly began a prolonged campaign of harassment, targeting the woman and her mother-in-law. He has previously been booked under multiple sections, including insulting a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, defamation, cheating by impersonation, and offences under the Information Technology Act. In July 2024, he was even arrested for attacking the woman with a knife at her sea-facing residence.

Based on her complaint, the Gamdevi police registered a fresh case against Dubey under Section 78(2) (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Further investigation is underway.
