A disturbing video has surfaced revealing a gunman positioned on the rooftop of the Losee Centre at Utah Valley University, followingthe fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA gathering on Wednesday.
Kirk was tragically struck in the neck by gunfire and subsequently passed away in hospital after being transported there in critical condition. Donald Trump announced the heartbreaking news via his Truth Social platform, reports the Express.
He stated: "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" Campus discussion becomes catastropheThe prominent conservative commentator was renowned for conducting public debates at universities nationwide.
Mr Kirk, 31, was addressing students when gunfire erupted at the institution on Wednesday, authorities confirmed.
A bullet was discharged at 12:20 local time whilst Kirk was responding to a student's inquiry. Footage captures him instantly falling to the ground with visible bleeding from his neck area.
US Vice President JD Vance has recently shared on social media. "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord," he writes.
The conservative campaigner uploaded content to his TikTok profile mere moments before the attack today, Wednesday September 10.
He addressed the audience: "That's a lot of people, Utah. Gather up.
"I'm going to be here for a couple of hours, get comfortable."
University shuts down as hunt for gunman continues.
Utah Valley University has been closed for the remainder of the day whilst the suspect remains on the run.
A spokesperson for Utah Valley University has withdrawn an earlier statement claiming that a suspect in the shooting of Mr Kirk had been apprehended.
In a statement given to Deseret News in Utah, university spokesman Scott Trotter said: "We can confirm that Mr Kirk was shot, but we don't know his condition. The suspect is not in custody. Police are still investigating Campus is closed for the rest of the day."

Video captured by witnesses shows crowds of people running from the scene after the dramatic shooting occurred.
According to authorities, Kirk was shot from approximately 200 yards away, on the far side of the quad where he was delivering his speech.
Relatives present during incidentKirk's family were all present at the university campus alongside him.
"Pray for [Kirk] his wife Erika, their two children, and all who were present at Utah Valley University," Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin posted on X.
