Tourists on Costa del Sol beach cheat death as out-of-control jet ski speeds at them

This is the dramatic moment tourists on a packed Costa del Sol beach cheat serious injury as an out-of-control jet ski speeds towards them.

Footage of the horror incident showed the man piloting it losing his balance as he appeared to check something behind him, and falling into the sea as it hurtled through the water towards the sand.

Miraculously no-one was hurt in the drama, with the jet ski narrowly missing bathers taking a dip near the shoreline who would have been incapable of getting out of the way if they had been directly in its path. Local reports said the man riding the jet ski had initially tried to flee the scene but had subsequently been identified by police thanks to the quick thinking of lifeguards.

The incident happened on Tuesday on La Luna beach in Mijas, a municipality between Marbella and Fuengirola. On June 28 British mum-of-four Debra Wright died after the jet ski she was riding pillion on was hit by a boat being piloted by a friend off Manilva west of Estepona on the Costa del Sol.

Her Greater Manchester-based husband Chris, the 52-year-old chairman of Ashton Town FC, described her as an “amazing woman” in a tribute. He also told how he cradled his dying wife in his arms.

The unnamed friend was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and an alcohol-related offence after failing a breath test. He was released without charge pending an ongoing criminal probe after appearing in court in Estepona a day after the tragedy.

Between July 2023 and September last year four people died in accidents involving jet skis on the Costa del Sol. One of the victims was a minor who died after the jet ski his dad was riding overturned and fell on top of him.

It comes as a jet ski rider faces two years in prison or a £50,000 fine after a shocking incident saw him risk the lives of an innocent pod of dolphins.

The rider was flying along the coast just off Brighton Beach, near Adelaide in Southern Australia, on August 10. After sailing along the coast, he made the heartbreaking decision to charge through a pod of dolphins who were enjoying the warmer waters closer to the shore.

The “disturbing” act has shocked and angered locals, leading to an official police investigation to begin.
