Indian team captain Shubman Gill has been chosen as the captain of the Test team for the tour of England. The selectors took this decision after Rohit Sharma retired from Tests before the tour. This player proved his usefulness by playing explosive centuries in the first two matches of the 5-Test series. Shubman Gill played a record-breaking innings in the second Test against England in Birmingham. During this innings, he was seen getting angry at teammate Akashdeep.
He got India out of trouble by scoring the first double century of his Test career. The team lost wickets early on the first day, and in such a situation, he made many important partnerships and took the team to 587 runs. England fast bowler Brydon Carse was trying to provoke Gill, but he did not get distracted at all. He did not play a single shot in anger. Nor did he ever lose his temper. What England fast bowler and captain Ben Stokes could not do in five sessions, India's fast bowler Akash Deep did in just a few minutes, meaning he made the captain angry.
Why did Shubman Gill get angry
Shortly before tea on the second day, Shubman Gill was moving towards a historic triple century. He tried to take a quick single after pushing towards midwicket. Akash Deep was not fully ready. He took a lot of time to get started. Ollie Pope, standing at mid-on, dived to the right, quickly got up and threw the ball towards the wicketkeeper.
The England batsman lost his balance and could not make an accurate throw. Jamie Smith had to catch the ball at some distance from the stumps, giving Akash Deep time to return to his crease. A better throw could have gotten Akash Deep out. Here Gill got angry and told Akash, "What are you looking at? Run quickly." This was Gill's first anger on a fellow player after becoming India's Test captain.
Gill missed a triple century
However, Shubman Gill missed a triple century for the first time after coming close to it. After playing 387 balls, the captain was out after scoring 269 runs with the help of 30 fours and 3 sixes. While trying to pull Josh Tongue's ball, he was caught by Ollie Pope at midwicket. Gill shared a 203-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket while he added 144 runs with Washington Sundar (42 runs off 103 balls).
