Bryan Mbeumo acknowledges "it hasn't been easy" for Manchester United's revamped attacking unit during the opening months of the campaign but maintains the understanding between himself, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko is beginning to flourish.
Mbeumo netted a brace on Saturday against Brighton as United secured their third consecutive triumph. United established a 2-0 advantage at half-time and appeared to have the match wrapped up when Mbeumo extended their lead to 3-0 following the restart. Nevertheless, a tense conclusion awaited after Danny Welbeck's free-kick and Charalampos Kostoulas' header during stoppage time.
Mbeumo rose to the occasion to clinch victory in the dying moments, taking his tally to five goals since his switch to United.
Cunha's effort marked his maiden strike for the club and Mbeumo confessed it was a weight off the Brazilian's mind to open his account.
"Yeah, of course the pressure is off his shoulders today with the goal, he was waiting for it and we were waiting for it as well," he explained.
"We are very happy for him. We are growing the link-ups between each other [himself, Sesko and Cunha].
"It hasn't been easy obviously because we all came this year and we tried to make the connections in training. It hasn't been easy coming into this environment, a big club, the expectations are not easy to handle but with the team-mates, everyone is helping me, helping the team, helping the new players and I think that was very important."
When quizzed about whether he could replicate his 20-goal haul from the previous season, Mbeumo confidently stated: "I always try to aim big in everything that I do. I try not to set limits on myself and on what I can reach. I am just going to work on that as much as possible."
Following United's victory, which propelled them to fourth place, Mbeumo expressed optimism for what lies ahead. "Everyone wants to fight for as high as possible," he declared.
"We want to win as many games as we can and that is what we are going to try and do."
