ITV Good Morning Britain fans 'switch off' as they make same complaint over Keir Starmer

Good Morning Britain was hit with a number of complaints from fans on social media on Monday morning as the ITV show was interrupted for an announcement from Downing Street. Sir Keir Starmer addressed the nation as the Prime Minsiter promised a number of changes to the way that the country deals with immigration.

After the Labour leader's lengthy speech, there was a chance for the press in the Downing Street media room to ask questions. However, ITV chose that point to cut back to the studio - meaning that fans watching at home were missing out. Taking to social media, namely X/Twitter, some viewers pointed out that the BBC were showing the questions in full so they would be switching to that channel instead.

Posting online, one fan pointed out: "# are showing the press questions #GMB," while another fumed: "Off to the #gmb." A third person angrily posted: "WTF!!! I want to hear the questions!!! #GMB."

"Nooo, we want to hear the press questions! #gmb," someone cried while one more person added: "Not taking questions then? #gmb."

During the questions, the Prime Minsiter was asked if he had "shot himself in the foot" by insisting those who want to be British citizens now have to live here twice as long. He responded by saying: "The theory that higher migration numbers leads to growth has been tested in the last four years.

"That link doesn't hold on that evidence. This white paper is not just a white paper on immigration, it's also a white paper that leads to skills and training."

He also tactfully dodged a key question, when he was asked whether net migration would fall every year between now and the next election. However, the politician did state that he wants to "get it down by the end of this Parliament".

Sir Keir initially tried to pass the blame for migration problems onto the previous Tory government in his speech, as he said: "The chaos of the previous government also changed the nature of immigration in this country.

"Fewer people who make a strong economic contribution, more who work in parts of our economy that put downward pressure on wages. So perhaps the biggest change in this White Paper is that we will finally honour what 'take back control meant' and begin to choose who comes here so that migration works for our national interest."

Concluding, the PM said that his White Paper will deliver "lower net migration, higher skills, backing British workers. The start of repairing our social contract which the chaos and cynicism of the last government did so much to undermine".
