President Donald Trump was expected to announce a "deal" regarding Israel's bloody conflict with Hamas on Wednesday, a plan that may involve a transitional Palestinian government body led by former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair.
During a roundtable event with conservative influencers at the White House on Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio handed Trump a handwritten note. It appeared to read, "We need you to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first." Trump read the note, then said to reporters: "I was just given a note saying that we're very close to a deal in the Middle East and they're going to need me pretty quickly."
The Truth Social post in question emerged on Trump's account soon after, in which he claimed that "Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace."

The influencer event on "antifa" had already been going on for nearly two hours when Rubio first approached. The president invited him to come in, and Rubio whispered something to Trump before handing him the note. Trump had previously proclaimed that he intended to develop the besieged Gaza into "the Riviera of the Middle East."
The note's urgent tone came as Trump's top Middle East adviser, the prime minister of Qatar and other senior officials joined a third day of peace talks between Israel and Hamas at an Egyptian resort Wednesday - a sign that negotiators aim to dive deeply into the toughest issues of an American plan to end the war in Gaza, according to The Associated Press.
Trump had kicked off the influencer event by telling assembled journalists that he planned to travel to the Middle East "toward the end of the week" and could even "make the rounds" in the region to Egypt and possibly the Gaza Strip.
After Rubio passed Trump the note, Trump continued to talk to the influencers and take questions from the media as Rubio appeared visibly anxious.
After several more minutes, the president wrapped by saying: "We're gonna get peace in the Middle East. That's what we want to do." He left without further elaborating.
In calling for Trump to announce the deal first, the administration may be attempting to bestow credit for the Gaza peace arrangement on the president.
The Trump administration backed a new plan that would see former Prime Minister Tony Blair temporarily lead the Gaza Strip without direct involvement from the Palestinian Authority, Israeli media reported last month.

Blair would head an agency called the Gaza International Transitional Authority (GITA) under the proposal, which would serve as the "supreme political and legal authority" in Gaza for up to five years. Though the interim government body would initially be based outside of Gaza's border, the plan reportedly foresees "the eventual unifying of all the Palestinian territory under the PA" with GITA headquarters moving inside the territory alongside a multinational contingent endorsed by the United Nations.
The former PM has caused deep resentment among many Palestinians for his role in impeding their efforts in achieving statehood and for supporting the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the U.S. The lack of a specific timeline for the transition, and the presence of Blair in a leadership position, are seen as positives for Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.
The proposal would not require Palestinians to leave Gaza, a sharp contrast to President Donald Trump's previous proclamations that he intended to develop the besieged area into "the Riviera of the Middle East."
The Trump administration sees the new proposal as a compromise between his and Israel's original plan to "take over" Gaza and the U.N.-endorsed plan.
"Trump's previous suggestions that the US and Israel could 'clean out' Palestinians from Gaza would amount to an ethnic cleansing of the population of about 2 million people," The Guardian reported.
