Manchester United could table a Premier League approach for midfielder Kobbie Mainoo later this summer as Tottenham Hotspur circle, according to reports. Mainoo has entered the final two years of his contract at his boyhood club, and negotiations over a new deal have stuttered for several months.

The 20-year-old midfielder endured a tough 2024/25 season, suffering through injury frustrations and uncertainty about where he fits in Ruben Amorim's system. Those questions will only get louder in the upcoming campaign if United fail to agree on terms over a contract extension.

Chelsea and overseas clubs have previously been linked with a potential swoop for Mainoo amid the Red Devils' ongoing battle to comply with FFP and PSR.

Mainoo's transfer fee would represent pure profit on the books at a time when the club are in desperate need to generate cash to fund Amorim's rebuild.

That said, the Stockport-born starlet has grown a reputation as one of Europe's most exciting young midfielders, and United will surely be keen to retain his services.

However, GIVEMESPORT report that Spurs could test the Old Trafford giants' resolve later in the summer transfer window.

The Lilywhites are said to be interested in Mainoo, and while he is currently not a priority topic among the recruitment team, the situation could develop.

The report adds that Mainoo's current focus is on enjoying a strong 2025/26 season to restore his upwards trajectory.

Since making his first-team breakthrough against Charlton Athletic in January 2023, the United No. 37 has established himself as a regular.

He has made 72 appearances under Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Amorim, scoring seven goals and registering two assists.

Mainoo's career highlight so far came in the form of the winning goal in the 2024 FA Cup final against Manchester City, marking a memorable 2-1 triumph at Wembley.

The talented playmaker has already earned 10 caps for England's senior team since making his debut in March 2024.

Gareth Southgate selected Mainoo for his Euro 2024 squad and handed him starts in the last 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final against Spain.

Amorim will undoubtedly have a plan for Mainoo over the coming months, but whether it will be enough to entice him to commit his future to United remains to be seen.
