Meghan Markle may never return to the UK regardless of whether her husband Prince Harry heals his royal rifts, an expert has claimed. Since quitting royal life in 2020 and moving to the US, Meghan and Harry have not been shy when it comes to criticising royal life and Harry's relatives.
This has led to various fractured relationships between the Duke and the rest of the Royal Family, including the ties he has to his brother Prince William, who he is not believed to have been on speaking terms with since 2023. However, according to various reports, some royal rifts - including the one between Harry and his father King Charles - may now come to an end.
This is because "peace summit" talks were reportedly held last week in London between Tobyn Andreae, the King's Communications Secretary, and Harry and Meghan's new Chief Communications Officer, Meredith Maines.
As reported by The Mail on Sunday, the informal meeting, which was also attended by Harry and Meghan's UK public relations operator Liam Maguire, was held at a London private members' club not far from Buckingham Palace.
While this is seen as a first step in the reconciliation process, one former royal correspondent and royal expert believes that it will be a "long" time before relationships are healed, and that even if they do, Meghan will not return to the UK.
Speaking to GB News, former Royal Correspondent at The Sun Charles Rae said: "It's a step in what you might call the right direction.
"There is a couple of huge flies in the ointment here, and one is Meghan. Is she going to agree to anything that smooths the troubled waters that have happened over the last five years? I'm not so sure."
He continued: "There's a long, long way to go before we get down to some substantive chats about healing.
"And I'm still of the opinion that this can never be healed, and I still believe that Meghan will never return to this country."
The King and Prince Harry, who are believed to have not been on talking terms earlier this year, reportedly knew about the meeting last week. It is not known if they have spoken since or what the next steps in healing the family rift may be.
It has been noticed that no-one from Prince William's team was present at the chat, suggesting that the rift between the two brothers is as strong as ever.
