and his wife Erica Stoll are set to move into their stunning new English home after the US Open as the Masters champion sets his sights on clinching a third US PGA Championship title. The Northern Irish sensation achieved a lifelong ambition by securing the prestigious green jacket at Augusta National in April, edging out compatriot Justin Rose in an electrifying play-off to complete an extraordinary career grand slam.
With the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow on the horizon - a venue where McIlroy has tasted significant success - the Holywood star and his family are gearing up for another joyous occasion. The couple, and daughter Poppy, are poised to settle into a newly-constructed Surrey home, conveniently situated near London. McIlroy, 35, along with his wife Stoll, has shown a fondness for the UK but the pair are currently based in Jupiter, Florida.
In 2017, McIlroy acquired a luxurious mansion from Ernie Els in the exclusive Bear's Club golf community. Despite this, Stoll, who was briefly embroiled in divorce proceedings with McIlroy in 2024 before they reconciled, has expressed her discomfort with Florida's relentless heat, reports .
During the Netflix series Full Swing, McIlroy discussed his wife's preference with German golfer Martin Kaymer. Recounting a conversation with Stoll, Kaymer shared: "I saw her [Stoll] at a Starbucks once, and she said, 'I really don't like the sun.' I said, 'Your state's called the Sunshine State, right?'".
McIlroy then revealed his partner's desire to return back to England: "If it was up to her, she wouldn't move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there."
Hints of McIlroy's UK ties emerged after his nail-biting win at the Players Championship, where his rival in the playoff, JJ Spaun inadvertently mentioned McIlroy's construction plans in England. During a chat on the Fore Play podcast, Spaun recalled their conversation: "He's super cool. We were talking about the UK.
"I know he's Northern Irish, but I asked him if he ever hangs out in London. Because my wife has got a really good friend that lives out there and loves going there. He said, 'Oh yeah, I'm building a house out there.'"
The has now confirmed that McIlroy is indeed setting down roots in Wentworth, Surrey, with a new residence ready in June. McIlroy shared his excitement with the Telegraph: "Straight after Augusta, we travelled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches. It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood [his hometown]."
While Florida will continue to be the family's mainstay during the PGA Tour season, there's speculation that McIlroy and his family might eventually make a full-time move to England.
The newly erected property is said to be nestled near the renowned Wentworth Golf Club and is thought to have cost between £10m and £13.5m to build. It reportedly boasts a grand 44-foot-long party and entertainment room, along with indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
