Russia launched 112 drones overnight from May 19 to 20, targeting regions including Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Sumy Oblast, where 56,000 residents have been evacuated under mandatory orders. The strikes came just hours after a call between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, during which Mr Trump said ceasefire talks would begin "immediately," though Putin rejected a 30-day truce. Sumy Oblast, bordering Russia's Kursk region, faces daily attacks with increased use of guided bombs and assault groups, forcing over 86,000 people to evacuate, with 65% already relocated.
Russian attacks killed at least one civilian and injured 13 others across multiple regions, including deadly shelling in Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian air defences intercepted 93 of 108 drones overnight, while drone strikes in Sumy damaged civilian infrastructure but caused no casualties.
