It looks like the rumours are true, because Sony has announced plans to hold a special State of Play event for September 2025.

The next PlayStation State of Play event takes place at 10pm BST UK time on the evening of September 24.

Fans can watch the entire thing live right here by clicking play on the YouTube embed below.

According to Sony, the next State of Play event runs for more than 35 minutes and will showcase first and third-party games.

"Tune in live this Wednesday for more than 35 minutes of reveals and news from developers around the world," Sony explains.

"We'll share new looks at anticipated third-party and indie titles, plus updates from some of our teams at PlayStation Studios - including an extended look at Saros, Housemarque's mysterious new title arriving next year.

"Look forward to nearly five minutes of gameplay captured on PS5."

Sony has also warned streamers that licensed music used during the event could result in copyright claims.

In terms of games, Sony has already announced plans to showcase Housemarque's upcoming title Saros.

Recent rumours also suggest Marvel's new Wolverine game will make an appearance during the event, especially with the game tipped to launch in 2026.

Now would also be a good time for Sony to announce the next God of War title, which is rumoured to have an Ancient Egypt setting.

With Ghost of Yotei launching in the coming weeks, there's a good chance we'll get one final look at this year's big new first-party game.

In terms of third-party games, recent reports suggest Capcom is planning a Resident Evil Requiem announcement, specifically about Leon Kennedy's involvement in the game.

Even though the next wave of PS Plus titles aren't officially expected to be announced until October 1, don't be surprised if Sony unveils the titles early as part of State of Play.

One title that almost certainly won't appear is Bloodborne, following reports that a PC port isn't in the works. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed regardless.
