Chennai: Girls Higher Secondary School (CGHSS), M H Road, a corporation-run school in Perambur, emerged as one of the top-performing govt schools in the city when the Class XII board exam results were declared on Thursday.
Out of 560 students who had appeared for the exams, 533 passed, registering 95% pass. More importantly, the school bagged three of the top four scorers among corporation school students in Chennai.
V Mamata, P Pooja, and K Roshini, all from the same school and same group, secured 588, 583, and 583 marks respectively out of 600. Mamata, daughter of a cab driver, topped the school and stood second among corporation school students in the city. "My father is the only earning member, and my twin brother is a special child. Our situation pushed me to give my best," said Mamata, who aspires to become a graphic designer.
Roshini, who also scored 583, said she kept her routine simple by waking up early instead of studying late into the night. She hopes to pursue engineering in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science.
The school's headmistress, Selva Kumari, said the success was due to regular motivational sessions, smart class support, and dedicated teachers. "Once a month, we organise motivational programs. Our teachers even stay till 9 pm to help students. These efforts have paid off," she said.
