Over 96 per cent of students who appeared for the 2025 Odisha Class 10 Matriculation Examinations, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), have passed, school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond announced on Friday.
The board conducted exams across three streams: the High School Certificate (HSC) Examination for regular students, the Madhyama Examination for Sanskrit learners, and the State Open School Certificate (SOSC) Examination for school dropouts. Results for all three streams were declared simultaneously.
Minister Gond expressed satisfaction over the smooth conduct of the exams and the timely release of results, noting a year-on-year improvement in student performance. “More students have passed this year with higher grades,” he said. Notably, 3,273 schools reported a 100 per cent pass rate, while no school recorded a zero pass percentage.
According to official data, 519,728 students had registered for the exams, of which 510,925 appeared. A total of 491,050 students (96.27 per cent) successfully cleared the exams across all streams.
In the HSC stream alone, 1,812 students secured the top A1 grade (above 90 per cent), followed by 12,200 in the A2 grade (80–89 per cent), 38,831 in B1 (70–79 per cent), and 84,971 in B2 (60–69 per cent).
In gender-wise performance, 2,50,975 boys appeared for the exams, with 2,40,251 (93.98 per cent) passing. Among 2,79,802 girls, 2,72,967 (96.73 per cent) cleared the exams, outperforming their male counterparts.
Gajapati district emerged as the top performer with a 99.35 per cent pass rate, followed by Ganjam (98.10 per cent) and Jharsuguda (97.87 per cent). Koraput recorded the lowest pass percentage at 92.83.
Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated all students who cleared the exams. In a message shared on X, he also encouraged those who fell short: “I advise the children who have not got promising results not to be discouraged. Continue working hard with willpower and self-confidence, regardless of the outcome. I wish everyone a bright future and continued success.”
Leader of Opposition and BJD President Naveen Patnaik also extended congratulations on X: “My heartfelt congratulations to all students who passed the 10th board exams. I also appreciate those who appeared. Marks may be the yardstick of the exam, but not of life. May everyone move forward with strong morale and determination. I wish all a bright future.”
