Which coach fits which NHL team? A look at best fits for Alexis Lafreniere, Connor Bedard & Sidney Crosby

Send Push
The NHL offseason has brought in discussions around coaching changes. Seven franchises have now parted with their bench bosses, and they are all searching for candidates that align with their future vision. Whether it is pushing a young core forward or revamping a veteran-dominated squad, the new coaching hire could either make or break the coming season. These are decisions that bear on Alexis Lafreniere 's future and Sidney Crosby's longevity. Let's look at the most compatible options for each team.

Coaches for Sidney Crosby, Connor Bedard, and Alexis Lafreniere must be ready for their present Developmental Stage

Anaheim Ducks – Joel Quenneville :

Back in play with a reinstatement by the league, Joel Quenneville's championship pedigree makes him a prime candidate for a Ducks team rich with youthful talent. In this regard, McTavish, Leo Carlsson, and Trevor Zegras would surely be aided by a steady hand. With that, Quenneville could provide the Ducks with a solid foundation that ensures victory over time.

Pittsburgh Penguins – Rick Tocchet :

Crosby and a few others are still being relied on by the team; no wonder it needs a coach who stresses defensive discipline and gets results from aging stars. Rick Tocchet is a fitting name in Pittsburgh, who adheres to that grit-on-the-rink, controlled-play style. His ability to get buy-in from his players, along with the desire of Crosby, might postpone the day of reckoning for the rebuild.

Seattle Kraken - Todd Nelson:

He is the right guy who goes along with the strategy of the Seattle Kraken, which is mostly based on youth. Todd Nelson has made his name in the AHL, and names like Shane Wright and Matty Beniers are starting to show themselves. The strong development and winning record of Nelson could benefit this next phase for Seattle.

Boston Bruins – Jay Leach:

Jay Leach's history with the Boston Bruins organization and his record of development make him one of the better candidates that the team can develop internally. With Boston's introduction of uncertainty about whether it will rebuild or stay competitive for the foreseeable future, Leach provides flexibility instead. He may have connections to the prospects and could provide long-term stabilization within the organization, as he is ready to lead at the NHL level.

Chicago Blackhawks – Jay Woodcroft:

With experience with high-end talents such as Connor McDavid, Woodcroft is a natural fit to mentor Connor Bedard through his NHL growing pains. Woodcroft has an offensive flair more than a wish to control the game. With Chicago integrating top prospects and possibly yet another elite draft selection, he will be able to build a foundation that develops Bedard into the centerpiece the organization envisions.

Vancouver Canucks -Manny Malhotra:

Manny Malhotra is deeply rooted in the Canucks' system and may even end up being the bridge between that talent pool of AHL borrow jail and the actual roster. He is bound to be a potential treasure box for players looking to unleash their elements around the likes of Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Elias Pettersson, younger ones, when they are ready to blossom from AHL into the NHL fold.

Philadelphia Flyers- Pat Ferschweiler:

The organization has yet to show a completed roster and is in significant need of someone who has the acumen to channel raw talent into a cohesive structural system. Pat Ferschweiler's earlier works at Western Michigan University fit perfectly. His blend of discipline with adaptability would suit up-and-coming names like Matvei Michkov, Tyson Foerster, and Jamie Drysdale. With Ferschweiler, players would get both organized and free to put on expressions of their offensive instincts in ideal situations with a young and evolving roster.

Every position in the NHL coaching market is uniquely different in both challenge and opportunity. The right coach can expedite rebuilding, solidify contender status, or unleash the full potential of a star. It will not matter if they are Joel Quenneville or youngsters like Jay Leach or Manny Malhotra; every choice matters.
