J&K encounter: Four JeM terrorists trapped in Udhampur; search operation underway

NEW DELHI: Four Jaish-e-Mohammad militants, under surveillance for the past twelve months, are currently surrounded by security forces in a wooded region of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The forces are working to neutralise these terrorists despite challenging weather conditions with rain and fog, according to PTI citing official statements that was released on Thursday.

Contact with the terrorists was made at approximately 8.30 am. According to Inspector General of Police, Jammu range, Bhim Sen Tuti, who spoke to journalists during a function, there were believed to be four terrorists whom they had been monitoring for the past year.


Despite poor visibility due to fog, he confirmed that search operations were continuing, and a clearer situation would be apparent once weather conditions improved.


The officials further stated that the cornered terrorists, who belonged to the Pakistan-based JeM, were discovered near Karoor nallah by a combined search team headed by the army's para commandos.

Earlier in the morning, the White Knight Corps said that the Indian army and Jammu Kashmir police launched an Operation Bihali in the Basantgarh based on the intelligence inputs.

"Contact has been established with terrorists," the army said in a post on X.


"Op BIHALI Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in the Bihali area of #Basantgarh. Contact has been established with #terrorists. The #operation is currently in progress," White Knight Corps said.
