A horrific crime that has stunned a quiet Queensland coastal town is now under deeper scrutiny as chilling social media posts by the accused mother reveal unsettling beliefs and apocalyptic language in the days leading up to her daughter's alleged murder .
Lauren Ingrid Flanigan , 32, has been charged with the murder of her three-year-old daughter after police discovered the child’s body with multiple stab wounds in the front yard of a residence on Regency Road in Moore Park Beach, near Bundaberg, at around 4.45 pm on Monday.
Flanigan did not appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday, with her matter adjourned until July. Authorities have confirmed that two other children at the home were unharmed and are now in the care of family members.
A scene of horror
Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip described the incident as "a horrific scene" and said emergency responders, including police and paramedics, were deeply affected by what they witnessed.
“There were multiple wounds to the child’s body,” he said during a press briefing. “This is not something we ever want to attend and want our people to have to deal with.”
A bladed knife was recovered from the scene. Police confirmed that multiple triple-zero calls had been made before the discovery of the body and the woman, who was also found outside the home.
Mental health questions and unconfirmed claims
When asked if Flanigan made religious remarks such as "God told her to do it" during the alleged incident, Superintendent Inskip declined to confirm. “It is before the courts now, so we’ll have to leave that for ongoing investigations.”
He also noted that any concerns regarding mental health would form a part of the ongoing police inquiry.
Social media posts raise alarms
In the days before her arrest, Flanigan posted a series of cryptic and highly emotional messages on Instagram that are now being scrutinised for insight into her mental state.
One particularly alarming post made just two days before the child’s death read:
“Train like it’s war — because it is. Discipline is deliverance. Refine your algorithm. Refine your soul. God is calling His army out of hiding. You are ROYALTY. You are CHOSEN. You are HOLY. You are a WARRIOR OF LIGHT.”
The post concluded with a rallying cry: “Tag your generals. It’s time to RISE.”
Her profile, styled like that of a motivational influencer, included phrases like “Faith. Family. Future. Fitness. Built for wealth. Wired for freedom. Elite Strategy. No Excuses,” and invited followers to message a flame emoji to "scale and become the 1 per cent."
She had also previously advocated online for domestic violence awareness and promoted digital work-from-home opportunities for mothers, painting a stark contrast to the violent tragedy now under investigation.
A community in shock
Queensland police service chief inspector Grant Marcus described the incident as a “horrendous tragedy,” while police continue their forensic investigation into what led to the death of the child.
