Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka has called for a boycott of actor Kamal Haasan’s films in Karnataka, accusing the veteran actor of insulting the Kannada language. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Ashoka urged the people of Karnataka to not allow Kamal Haasan to enter the state and demanded a ban on both his new and old movies.

“Kamal Haasan, who has already failed in politics after starting his own party, has now insulted the Kannada language. He has acted in several Kannada films and worked with many Kannada producers. Having earned his livelihood here, he should have shown respect to the language and spoken responsibly. Instead, he has made derogatory remarks, questioning the antiquity of Kannada,” Ashoka said.

He further appealed to the state government and pro-Kannada organizations to take a firm stand and prevent Haasan’s films from being screened in Karnataka. “Kannadigas must not tolerate such insults from someone who has benefitted from this land,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa also condemned Kamal Haasan’s controversial statement where the actor reportedly claimed that “Kannada originated from Tamil.” Speaking in Mysuru on Wednesday after offering prayers at Chamundeshwari Temple, Yediyurappa said, “Many people have denounced Kamal Haasan’s statement. Such remarks are unwarranted and should be avoided by anyone.”
